45 YEARS, an award-winning film directed by Andrew Haigh and starring Charlotte Rampling (pictured) and Tom Courtenay, is based upon a short story by the award-winning Salford-born author, David Constantine. In celebration of the film’s UK release, in conjunction with Manchester Literature Festival, Constantine will be engaging in a Q&A, ‘The Art of the Short Story’, and signing a recently released selection of his stories from the past 20 years (Comma Press). This will be followed by a film screening of 45 YEARS, the film hailed as ‘a modern classic of British Cinema’, that won 2 awards at the Berlinale and achieved the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. A subtle yet powerful portrayal of a marriage threatened by a potentially devastating revelation, both the original story and its film adaptation work together in unison, providing a prime example of how the short story form transcends so fluently onto the screen.
