Touchstones in Rochdale is launching an exhibition called Bodytopos which showcases a series of drawings from the Manchester based artist Daksha Patel. Her work, which deals primarily with the human body, explores the parameters of drawing by combining materials such as clay, fat, graphite and natural pigments with vellum and latex to create unstable surfaces leaving the drawings as ephemeral, transitory works. By doing this, she is mapping the human body in relation to its environment, both natural and scientific. Shown in this exhibition will be a selection of drawings and prints, from both a new collection and already existing and exhibited works. Alongside the opening of Bodytopos will be another exhibition called Common Ground, which is a collaborative display of the work of three Japan based artists Junko Mori, Kayo Saito and Ikuko Iwamoto who have a shared interest in the natural world, depicting nature through various forms of making: jewellry, sculptural ceramics and metalwork.
