Saul Hay Gallery is a contemporary art space in Castlefield. The Gallery is loaning some of its collection to the Portico Library for a month-long showcase. The exhibition launches on Thursday 16 February with a free evening event. Included in the exhibition are eight UK-based artists, including finalists for the John Moores Painting and Carter Preston prizes. Among the group is Manchester resident Omid Asadi, a former engineer and champion boxer from Iran. He creates intricate works on fallen leaves using a scalpel and needle (pictured). Jo Taylor is a member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors whose porcelain works suggest organic forms and fluidity. Painter and printmaker Mandy Payne specialises in representing the overlooked urban areas of her native Sheffield.
