This summer the Holden Gallery presents artists Jim Lambie and Mark Wallinger in a new exhibition, titled Platform. Jim Lambie’s The Strokes (2008, pictured) is an entire floor installation, made up of swirling patterns and vertigo inducing optical illusions. His work has previously been shown at major galleries and museums in London, Tokyo, Boston and Melbourne (among others). In the side room, Turner Prize-winning artist Mark Wallinger presents his video Construction Site (2011), a film set on a pebbled beach, where a group of scaffolders assemble a structure until the top is in line with the horizon, forcing the viewer to recognise the framing devices with which we see the world, set within an everyday context. Finally, in the right wing of the gallery, a pop-up cafe and event space will ensure that the exhibition becomes a vibrant environment for conversation and interaction. Events will include a symposium with David Batchelor (artist) and Janet Wolff (Professor and art theorist), curator talks, film screenings and live music.
