For the uninitiated, Courtney Barnett’s debut Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit is perhaps a window into her lyrical dexterity. Sing-speaking in a blasé Australian accent, her songs are a jaunty angle on the otherwise perilous 21st Century living of a mid-twenties human, coupled with anxieties of social interaction that are so easy to fall victim to. Her lyrics are difficult to not sing along to but not just because they’re catchy; her stories have the incredible quality of being insightful yet hilariously novel. She has the rare talent of delivering her insecurities in a non-self-pitying way – and with one sold out show already in London, it’s in your best interest to act quick on this.
