The floppy-haired prince of alt-country makes a welcome return to Manchester. For the uninitiated, Ryan Adams has been peddling his own brand of literate country music for nearly 20 years, first with Whiskeytown and more recently as a solo artist. Despite never becoming a household name, he’s garnered a loyal fanbase taken in both by his strong songwriting and his dorkward persona – his personal image indebted to his long-forgotten art punk origins. His last appearance in Manchester took him to the Bridgewater Hall – ditched this time in favour of  the older and grander surroundings of the Albert Hall, a former Methodist church and an apt setting for Adams’s folksy ruminations on heartbreak. A prolific artist, it’s difficult to say at this point what material will be covered in this tour, but judging from recent critical appraisals of his live performance, he’s lost none of his fire – and seasoned Adamites are unlikely to be disappointed.
