For the first time in five years, Black Lips are coming to Manchester. The Georgia-based band somewhat confusingly describe their music as ‘flower punk’ – but most critics agree they’re straight-up garage rock. Formed in 1999, the band have released 10 albums – the most recent of which was this year’s Underneath the Rainbow. However, Black Lips are more famous for their exploits outside of the studio. They recently hit the headlines for sabotaging an online Q&A with Gene Simmons, calling him a misogynist and demanding a surrender of the ‘Kiss Army’. They are also notorious for their shocking onstage antics, which often include vomit, nudity, urine and fireworks (hopefully not all at the same time). So concert-goers beware.
