Theatre fans will get another chance to see the acclaimed play Britannia Waves the Rules at the Royal Exchange Theatre. After a hugely successful first run at the Exchange last month, the play returns for a short run at the end of July. Gareth Farr’s drama tells the story of Carl, a man who tries to escape his grim life in Blackpool by joining the army. He returns from war not as a hero, but as a changed man. Britannia Waves the Rules recently won the Judges’ Award at the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting. Carl is played by Dan Parr, who has previously starred in BBC One’s The Crimson Field. The director is Nick Bagnall, who recently helmed The Last Days of Troy, also at the Exchange. Following this Manchester run, the play will transfer to the Edinburgh Fringe and the Latitude Festival.
