Still grooving as smoothly as when his solo career launched around 1980, Kanda Bongo Man is due at Band on the Wall this month. Being based in Paris in the early 80s, he found the limelight in the epicentre of the soukous genre’s second wave, showcasing African-born music to European dance floors in his trademark quicker style. Now a sexagenarian, he ranks among Congo’s finest musical exports with a back catalogue spanning 30 years from 1981’s Iyole to 2010’s Non-Stop Feeling. Shake a leg and have a dance.
