Manchester’s dancefloor-fillers will be delighted to hear the Motown legend Martha Reeves has confirmed a rare live appearance. Reeves’ hit-filled career needs no introduction, with 26 internationally charting singles to her name. On her return to Manchester, a city whose club venues ring with the sounds of her famous classics such as Dancing In The Street and Jimmy Mack every week, Reeves will be fronting an eight-piece live band to recreate the swinging 60s soul of her celebrated heyday. Over the years, her sound has developed as genres have emerged, counting jazz, rock, country and classical among her range. Having been elected to the Detroit City Council from 2005 to 2009, she’s followed her musical path once more in recent years and, despite 50 years passing since catching the eye of the A&R at Motown, The Vandellas still capture the joyous spirit of the era. Support comes from Northern Soul’s finest, Black Bee Soul Club.
