Bringing in the team behind MachFest as the comedy curators of this year’s Manchester International Festival was a great move. The stand up section of the festival was already promising, with showcases for Sara Pascoe, Mark Watson and Gein’s Family Giftshop to name a few of the award winning comedians. However, those good people from Machynlleth have kept a few secrets up their sleeves. Two new dates have just been announced for avant garde poet and stand up Tim Key (pictured) and the incendiary wit, Mark Thomas. Key is currently riding the crest of a wave which sees him being the best thing about Channel 4’s Gap Year as well as coming off the back of a leading role in Art at London’s Old Vic. Mark Thomas meanwhile is an even more necessary voice than usual in the current political climate as we look to the satirists to make sense and fun of all the madness. Act fast as these will sell out quick.

Sat 8 Jul (Tim Key) & Sun 9 Jul (Mark Thomas), 53Two, Corner of Albion & Great Bridgewater Streets, Manchester M1 5PN, both 5pm, £7-15, mif.co.uk
