Two of Manchester jazz’s household names are teaming up for a Bonfire Night special of the long-running Keep It Unreal club night. Hosted and headlined by Mr Scruff, the Macclesfield-born crate digger whose first album via Ninja Tune shares its name with the successful club night, the November edition of the monthly Band on the Wall jive sees support by Gondwana Records’ label boss Matthew Halsall. Halsall can lay claim to helping local jazz favourites GoGo Penguin with a leg-up en route to their current deal with Blue Note, so his ear for a tune can’t be questioned. Expect unrelenting grooves breaking through the borders of funk, soul and jazz, all washed down by Scruff’s trademark brew.

Sat 5 Nov, Band on the Wall, 25 Swan Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M4 5JZ, Tel: 0161 834 1786, 10pm-3am, £12-£13, www.bandonthewall.org
