Bristol-born post-pinks The Pop Group are due in Manchester on the eve of their 40th anniversary year. The tour aligns with the release of their new album, Honeymoon On Mars, which they promise goes “completely off the map” and is due on 28 October. It’s their second since rekindling the sonic flames that saw them trailblazing the less ramshackle aftermath of the late-70s punk ethos. Their more sophisticated, politically tuned-in lyricism and high octane riffing has once again been fused by the album’s co-producer Dennis Bovell, whose specially concocted DJ mix in the tour support slot will be worth turning up on time for.
