HOME’s Artist Film Weekend is a foray into the wild and wonderful world of films, both long, short, documentary and otherwise made outside of typical convention by artists from around the world. The programme includes a screening of artist Clara Casian and musician Robin Richard’s new collaboration, Birdsong – Stories from Pripyat (pictured, Fri 30 Sep, 8.30pm, www.homemcr.org) which uses iconic images from Chernobyl and archive footage to immerse viewers in the stories. Saturday (1 Oct. 6pm, www.homemcr.org ) sees a retrospective of Boston-based video artist Luther Price works which explore the dark side of domestic life, through its detritus, and the bodies that inhabit our domestic spaces. There’s also the North West premiere of director Sergio Caballero’s idiosyncratic La Distancia with a Q&A. This film is a heist movie that follows the adventures of three telepathic dwarves attempt to rob a power station in Siberia – among other things. Caballero somehow found time to direct this movie as well as being co-director of Sonar, Barcelona’s future-facing music and art festival.
