Cult singer songwriter Beth Orton is performing an intimate show at Band on the Wall this February. She’s in Manchester for a series of music workshops, which are aimed at encouraging women vocalists, musicians and creatives to get in to the music industry. The grand finale of a week of collaboration will be Orton performing a live show with her group of mentees in what looks set to be a unique and magical event for all involved. Orton rose to fame in the 1990s with seminal album Trailer Park (1996). She’s won a Brit Award and has twice been nominated for the Mercury Prize. Oft compared to Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, other albums to explore include like Central Reservation (1999), co-produced by Everything But the Girl’s Ben Watt, as well as latest release, Sugaring Season.
