Manchester’s biennial international arts festival returns this summer, and while tickets for certain events sold out in a heartbeat (see what you can still catch here), you’ll be glad to hear leftfield festival organisers Sounds From The Other City and Serious, who bring music from Brazil, Colombia, France and UK, have planned a solid programme of live music for MIF’s Festival Square. William Basinski, sound artist will pay tribute to David Bowie in his latest release A Shadow In Time, while innovative nightclub Amnesia Scanner who will present the stage as a living organism. They join an impressive roster that’s sure to clear your diary, including psych-rock quintet Hookworms, Liverpudlian electropop trio Stealing Sheep and minimalist jazz electronica group Portico Quartet.
