Sounds from the Other City (SFTOC) returns on Sunday 30 April 2017 showcasing the best in new music in and around a unique array of venues up and down and around Salford’s Chapel Street. Previous guests include Sampha, Pumarosa, Lapalux, James Ferraro and Alt-J and the first acts to be announced include London three-piece and Zane Lowe faves HMLTD, exotic psych from Flamingods, box-fresh indie from Goat Girl, Heavenly Records’ Amber Arcades and ethereal New Zealand solo artist, Fazerdaze. Other confirmed acts include Ex Easter Island Head who will be joined by recorder and fiddle performer Laura Cannell and members of the BBC Philharmonic orchestra. Each stage at the event is hosted by a different promoter such as the White Hotel, Heavenly Records, Now Wave and Hey! Manchester. Venues include St Philip’s Church and Salford Cathedral, trading estate units, the New Oxford pub, Islington Mill, The King’s Arms and the Angel Centre. While catching acts on the rise is a part of SFTOC’s appeal, the festival organisers have always collaborated with visual artists. This year, they’ve teamed up with IMPA.TV who hosted last year’s hit SFTOC.TV stage. Expect live visuals, archive footage, set design and performance employed in new and exciting ways to unite the look and feel of the site. Watch this space for a competition incoming this March…
