Madonna’s dance routines, documentary Paris is Burning and the Vogue Balls which have sprung up across the north west in recent years all have vogueing in common; a style of dance which is characterised by angular movements which reference fashion catwalk moves and couture styling. Dancers typically take turns at solo ‘walks’ interspersed with dance moves, which are then voted on by the audience in the form of applause. However, the moves can form part of your usual Saturday night out, or any other situation you see fit. If you’d like to give vogueing it a whirl, a workshop is taking place at HOME this January as part of the Push Festival (full preview to follow). Dance tutor is Darren Pritchard, choreographer, star and writer of of Quarantine’s theatre piece, Susan & Darren and Mother of Manchester’s vogue collective, House of Ghetto. Absolute beginners welcome.
