Beginning life as Portico Quartet, three members now remain of the band and have dutifully dropped the latter part of the name. Their debut album, on Ninja Tune, is a hop, step and a leap from what listeners might be expecting given their past; and though on the whole it plays like an electronic album, many components were born from analogue instruments and field recordings. Listen to “Void”, and you’ll hear the sound of a large, old ship being torn apart, reflecting the concepts of decay and disintegration throughout Living Fields, The result is, from Jack Wyllie himself, “a beefy sound and a bit more for the dancefloor”.  The largely melancholic, experimental pop record has guest vocals from Alt-J’s Joe Newman, Jamie Woon and Jono McCleery, who will be joining them on tour.
