The kebab has long been the creature of the night: the thing we don’t talk about, that foodstuff that we only eat when we’ve had a thousand blue WKDs and a gallon of Jagermeister. It is the guiltiest of eats – one you will be tasting for the next day. Tasting the regret. The thing is though, this is only the case in back-alley sweatfests that have forgotten what a real kebab can taste like. Spiced meats brought together and garnished properly in a naan can be a meal fit for kings. This is something Turkish Delight in Chorlton has always known – and after 27 years, it can now prove it’s the best, having scooped ‘best venue’ – out of 80 nominated outlets – at the British Kebab Awards, held in Parliament on 21 January. Making everything fresh on site from the best ingredients, the Chorlton restaurant and takeaway deserves the plaudits and proves that not all kebab houses are post-drink houses of ill repute.
