Rad Film Screenings continue their all day movie marathons featuring the best nostalgic treats from particular cinematic years now looking back twenty years (seriously, we checked the maths) to 1997. Each film that they have picked pays homage itself to a bygone era with Mike Myers classic spy spoof Austin Powers deeply rooted in the swinging sixties, Paul Thomas Anderson’s seventies porno magnum opus Boogie Nights, the class reunion of hitman comedy Grosse Point Blank and although Starship Troopers is set in the future it harks back to the age of 40s and 50s war movie propaganda in its sci-fi bros vs bugs action fest. An eclectic day of films that could make a solid argument for being timeless classics you can take in all four for a tenner or split your day with the ’97 movie of your choice for just £4 per film. To be in with a chance of winning two day passes to the marathon, simply email competitions [at] manchesterwire [dot] co [dot] uk with a subject of ‘Class of 97 Competition’, + your name, age, Twitter handle and phone number. Competition closes at midnight on Wed 12 Jul. The winner will be informed by Twitter the following day. This event has been postponed.
