Common bar has been our friend for six years. Often cited as the bar that launched the Northern Quarter full stop, there have been some wonderful sights to enjoy (not to mention drinks to drink) over the years. The bar is regularly given over to artists and designers to transform its look meaning that an actual refurbishment and interior jig-about was never priority. When Common re-opens on in the Spring, it will have earlier opening times, and an extended square footage (included a rumoured downstairs bit) with 30 additional covers, making more time and room for a new all day food menu and super-fine coffee. The team behind Common also run the Port Street Beer House and the Beagle pub in Chorlton, so you know that whatever they do, it’s likely to be your new favourite thing. To ‘celebrate’ the closing of the bar for its 100% refurb, they have announced a week of parties. These include Common Knowledge Quiz (Wed 4 Mar), Bar DJ set with Stop Making Sense (Fri 6 Mar) and Robert Parkinson DJ set (Sat 7 Mar).

Closing Mon 9 Mar (Re-open date TBA), Common, 39 Edge Street, Manchester, M4 1HW. Tel: 0161 832 9243 www.aplacecalledcommon.co.uk
