This Saturday, Eccentronic Research Council will play an ultra-rare gig at Islington Mill. The Sheffield-based group specialise in analogue electronica, ‘fakelore’ storytelling and non-populist pop. Providing narration and vocals will be actor Maxine Peake, the star of shows such as Shameless and Silk. Peake is a frequent collaborator with the band, having worked on their 1612 Underture album, a conceptual work about the scandal of the Pendle Witch Trials. The album is on Spotify and is well worth a listen. Saturday’s show is a revue, featuring select tracks from 1612 Underture and their previous LP, Magpie Billy & The Egg That Yolked. Also appearing will be DJs and other special guests.
