Loads of food news to get stuck into this week, from new Ancoats pizza place Rudy’s, to a gin spectacular at Fumo and special supper club with YBFs Street Food award winner Yakumama at Spinningfields’ The Kitchens.

Spirit tastings at San Carlo Fumo
San Carlo Fumo, the central cocktail bar and Italian small plates restaurant, is hosting a quartet of spirit tasting sessions in collaboration with Dave Marsland, aka The Drinks Enthusiast. The first tasting will focus on gin, showcasing both boutique and luxury brands from Langley’s No 8 to Jensen Old Tom. Guests will sample each gin, while learning about its history and production process, before rounding off with a gin cocktail nightcap. The sessions will continue with a rum tasting (Wed 4 Nov), a whiskey tasting (Wed 18 Nov) and finally a ‘luxury’ tasting (Wed 9 Dec), whatever that means.
Wed 7 Oct, Fumo, 1 St Peters Square, Oxford Road, M1 5AN. Tel: 0161 236 7344, £25 per session, www.sancarlofumo.co.uk

Design a pizza box for Crazy Pedro’s
To celebrate National Pizza Month, Crazy Pedro’s have asked well-known names in and around Manchester to design their own pizza boxes, which are to be displayed on the walls of the off-kilter pizza joint. The month-long installation will celebrate Manchester’s creative flair and among the (currently secret) contributors are famous Northern Quarter street artists and renowned tattooists. The project will culminate with a special auction at the end of the month where the pieces will go on sale for charity. All money raised will go to The Christie Hospital. Local artists have until the Friday 23 October to submit their work.

New place: Rudy’s Neapolitan Pizza in Ancoats (pictured)
Rudy’s Neapolitan Pizza opens its doors to the public this month. Riding the crest of the Ancoats regeneration wave, Rudy’s promises an authentic taste of Naples in an area that’s aptly known as Little Italy. The pizzeria, named after the owners’ terrier, boasts both a strict adherence to Napoli’s rules governing how the dough is made, stored and cooked, and its very own wood-fired pizza oven, imported from Moderna.

Food award-winner Yakumama hosts Kitchens supper club
Yakumama, which recently picked up MFDF’s Best Street Food Award, have now doubled their haul and won national acclaim taking the prestigious Young British Foodie (YBF) award for Best Street Food. The Latin-American inspired team were the only Manchester-based outfit to walk away with an award when they triumphed over their fellow Street Food finalists with their impressive Cuban beef empanadas stuffed with rare breed beef picadillo, olive and sultanas. In November, Yakumama will host a supper club at The Kitchens in Spinningfields, transforming the space into a relaxed and cosy shared dining experience with a banquet-style dining table and a range of Argentinian Beers and South American Wines to compliment their award winning grub.
