Northern Quarter stalwarts Common have always been a place to find the best in art and design. Right from the bar’s early days of inviting artists to repaint and redesign the whole bar, to their current slew of exhibitions including the current Lucy Sherston takeover (read our preview). This week sees the start of seven days of even more art. First up, Berlin graffiti artist Billy and Alex (a previous decorator of Common) is creating new work in the bar all day on Tuesday (4 Apr). On the night of Tuesday (4 Apr) there is a special edition of Colouring Club, the monthly laid back drawing group that is free to enter with materials and inspiration provided. Wednesday (5 Apr) sees the hosts of bi-monthly quiz night Common Knowledge coming over all arty with a ‘Never Mind the Pollocks’ vibe where you can win bar tab prizes if your arty knowledge is up to scratch. On Thursday (6 Apr) it’s the Floats and Boats print fair that amasses the city’s finest artists, graphic designers, photographers and illustrators. Friday night (7 Apr) see the party continue as one half of Preston is my Paris, Robert Parkinson, digs through his record collection for the choice cuts of art pop for your ears from 8pm til late. Rounding out a pretty hectic week artfully is the print, ceramic and textile bonanza known as Odd Bod Art Market from 4pm – 9pm on Sunday (9 Apr).
