It feels like just weeks ago that we were sauntering around with Bank Holiday smugness. Well, actually we were, and now we get to do it all over again with some free events to help us along.

Levy Market and the Inspire Craft Market
Spring has finally sprung, and what better way to give your home a seasonal face-lift than with this week’s Levy Market? As it’s the first Saturday of the month, traders fall into the handmade and home category, meaning you’ll find goodies including strange and surreal artwork from Jon Turner, retro kitchenalia from Nora B’s Treasures, fine art photographic prints from Peter Aitchison and, as per, a bumper lineup of food and drink stalls as well. As if this isn’t enough, you can also get a crafty Levenshulme fix with the Inspire Craft Market at the Inspire Centre. Running from 11am to 3.00pm, this one features a make and take craft table for kids, stalls and hot drinks and cakes, and is conveniently located so that you can kill two birds with one stone on your way to the Levy Market.
Sat 3 May, Shopper’s car park (next to Levenshulme station), M19 3PJ, 10am – 4pm, FREE, www.levymarket.com

Nerf UK and Ireland Freestyle Football Championships at The Printworks
Sponsored by the toy brand that gave us hours of whistling fun on the beach, 2014’s Freestyle Football Championships makes its way to The Printworks this Saturday for an afternoon of high octane battles, with athletes going head-to-head over three minutes to impress the judges with their fancy footwork. The winner will receive £1000, before being flown out to Brazil to represent the UK in the world Red Bull Street Style competition later on this year, but if you don’t fancy your chances there will be plenty of prizes knocking around for audience members too and enough ‘urban entertainment’ to keep things interesting.
Sat 3 May, The Pumpyard, The Printworks, 27 Withy Grove, M4 2BS, 1pm – 5pm, FREE, www.theprintworks.com

The Jackalope Record Fayre (pictured)
We’re suckers for a pretty poster, but The Jackalope’s Record Fayre promises so much more than aesthetic arousal. Bringing together an impressive selection of rare vinyl collectors, label heads and DJs, the day seeks to celebrate the renaissance of those plastic black discs that we can’t seem to get enough of. All-day stalls will keep you busy and sets from the likes of Chris ‘The Judge’ Arthur (B-Music), Simon Norfolk (Sunstone Records), David Chatton-Barker (Folklore Tapes), Goff (Wowie Zowie), Liam Quinn (Beat Boutique), Lee, Janda (Finders Keepers), Chris Maude (The Devils Jukebox), Gumbo (Inner Circle Soul Club), Lee Gorton (The Jackalope) and Lee Brady to keep you dancing. CDs and cassette tapes seem to have had their day, but vinyl lives on – so party hard for its sake and give Monday a hangover to be ashamed of.
Sun 4 May, The Jackalope, 370 Barlow Moor Road, M21 8AZ, 12pm – 12am, FREE, www.facebook.com

Saddleworth Creative Network’s ‘Be Creative’ Bank Holiday Bonanza
You may have thought Levenshulme had the craft market totally dominated this weekend, but there’s more creative goodness with the Saddleworth Creative Network’s Bank Holiday Bonanza. Spanning the entire bank holiday window, this bumper triple-day event seeks to promote the ethos of making, doing, and getting stuck in with most of the traders providing an element of demonstration or interactive crafts at their stall. Ensuring you won’t go hungry are the Little Saddleworth Pie Company, handmade chocolates from Sugar Violets, an on-site tea shop and so much more, along with entertainment such as face painting lucky dips and a charity tombola.
Sat 3 – Mon 5 May, Uppermill Civic Hall, Lee Street, Oldham, OL3 6AE, 10am – 4pm, FREE, www.creativenetwork-saddleworth.co.uk
