Creative Writing Class at Ziferblat
Edge Street pay-per-minute coffee shop Ziferblat are now hosting a regular writer’s group, where Mancunian writers can meet up and discuss their work, hopefully leading to new ideas and interesting collaborations. If you’re a writer, or just interested in the scene, register using the link below. The session is free, although it’s worth noting you do have to pay for you time spent at Ziferblat – the flipside being that tea, coffee and biscuits are all provided gratis.

Divergency Installation at Z-arts
Divergency is a sister-piece to last weekend’s mammoth 11-hour Emergency event at Hulme’s Z-arts. It’s an evening of art and performance  featuring new works at various stages of completion. Five of these performances will set you back 3-6 pounds, but the installation at the centre of Divergency is free to attend. It consists of three performances: Asteroid RK1 by Jamil E-R Keating, Tented by Chelsea Morgan and Yvonne Shelton’s Testimony. All new, all original and all radically different from one another.
Thu 6 Oct, Z-arts, 335 Stretford Road, Manchester, M15 5ZA. Tel: 0161 226 1912, 6pm, www.wordofwarning.org

Speakeasy at Stretford Sip Club
Speakeasy is a regular poetry and spoken word night at Stretford’s hottest haunt Sip Club. This edition is to celebrate National Poetry Day, and rather than reading from their own work, contributors will be bringing along work from their favourite poets – be they legendary or obscure. It’s a great night for big fans of poetry – and at the time of writing, there’s still some reading slots left for budding poets to dip their toe in.
Thu 6 Oct, Speakeasy, 164A Barton Road, Stretford, M32 8DP. 7.30pm – 10pm, www.facebook.com

Art of Wallpaper at The Whitworth (pictured)
Did you know International Wallpaper Week is a thing? Me neither, but it is and it’s this week. The Whitworth are holding a special Thursday Lates session to celebrate these humble wall adornments, presented by wallpaper manufacturers Graham & Brown. Through a series of talks, demonstrations and workshops they’ll take you through the whole production process – from to design to printing – using both traditional and CAD techniques. There’s also a talk on the psychology of colour, delivered by G&B’s colour expert.
Thu 6 Oct, The Whitworth, Oxford Road, Manchester, M15 6ER. Tel: 0161 275 7450, 6pm – 8.30pm, www.facebook.com
