Dante’s Literary Landscapes at Portico Library
Dante Alighieri, of Dante’s Inferno fame, is an enduring literary figure even to this day, with every vision of Hell you’ve ever read about being directly traced back to the Florentine master. This evening celebrates his work, with a presentation of new book L’Italia con gli occhi di Dante – Italy through the Eyes of Dante – and screening of the 1911 short film adaptation of Inferno. There’s also an exploration of the geography of his native Florence and Ravenna, as well as a talk from a representative of the Ravenna Music Festival. In true Italian-style, they’re also putting on free wine and cantuccini.

Steve Davis at Electrik
Steve Davis is best known as a snooker player, but you may be aware of his curious double life as an electronic music DJ, which was brought to the public’s attention when he played Glastonbury earlier this year. Well this week he’s bringing his record collection to the far humbler surroundings of Chorlton’s Electrik for One Deck Wednesday, their regular night of mix-free music. Whether you’re a fan of the way he cues up balls or queues up tunes, this night is not to be missed.
Wed 16 Nov, Electrik, 559 Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, Manchester, M21 0AE. 8pm  – 12.30pm, www.facebook.com

Shen Xin at CFCCA (pictured)
London-based artist Shen Xin comes to the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art for one night only, as she presents her new live work Originally Inclusive. Shen is a digital and video artist who’s only really shot up in the last couple of years, and this piece brings in a lot of the techniques she’s been honing. It explores the notion of origin and DNA using real-life storytellers set against digital animations.
