Powder Keg Fundraiser at Texture
The Hodgkiss Award-winning spoken word/theatre group Powder Keg are going up to the Edinburgh Festival, and they need your help to get there. Best known for their recent HOME show Morale is High (Since we gave up Hope), the group are busy preparing the show for a Fringe run and they’re putting on a fundraiser at Texture in the Northern Quarter to help them get there. Expect unique performances with music, dance, comedy and spoken word. It’s free on the door, but being a fundraiser, you will be expected to dip your hand into your pocket at some point.

Creative Enterprise Day at St. John’s
You may have noticed that the St. John’s neighbourhood – around Old Granada Studios – has been undergoing some transformations as of late, as it becomes new Enterprise City, a new district for creative industries. The launch Enterprise City on the world, their hosting a free, day long-festival across several venues in the area, with talks, workshops and a little bit of street food. Dennis Bovell at Electrik
This month’s 1 Deck Wednesday at Electrik is veteran of UK reggae Dennis Bovell. Bovell’s career spans over four decades, from the early days of the genre through to remixes and collaborations with top artists from every musical path – even Bananarama. The rules for 1 Deck Wednesday’s are simple: Just one deck, all vinyl, no mixing or production tricks. Come see what this giant of British music pulls from his vast record collection.

Black Noise Launch at Salutation (pictured)
Salutation, a traditional pub in the heart of the University district, is playing host to this indie book launch on Thursday. Black Noise is an anthology that takes a sidewards look at modern life, mixing absurdity, black humour and some striking artwork. Contributors include fiction writer Thomas McColl, who’s recently put out his own collection Being With Me Will Help You Learn, amongst a roster of up-and-coming talents. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on the night.
