A new exhibition at the Whitworth opens this weekend, celebrating the more reflective side of one of the 20th Century’s most enduring artists, and this Friday evening they’re kicking off with a preview. As well as giving you an advance look at the exhibition, which features 232 works spanning his entire career, you’ll also get to see a performance from local musician Stella Grundy, who’ll be occupying the role of Warhol muse and Velvet Underground collaborator Nico for the evening.

Menarche Musical at Gorse Hill Studios
Menarche is a new musical written and directed by Una Baines, former keyboardist with The Fall, and is being produced by a company of young performers at Stretford’s Gorse Hill Studios. The production tells the story of a young girl’s journey through the four elements using dance, drumming and martial arts, all of which were developed in a series of workshops with the cast. Baines’ current band Poppycock provide live musical accompaniment to the play.

Splat Shakespeare at Central Library
The Splat Shakespeare Company use family theatre and circus techniques to bring the immortal bard’s words back to life and showcase them to a young audience. This Saturday they’re taking on Shakespeare’s great comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Central Library. They’ll be putting on two free sessions, and booking ahead is essential if you want to attend.

Print Fairs at Anthony Burgess Foundation and Kosmonaut
This Saturday you can enjoy not one but two free print fairs in Manchester. The first is the Unwrapped print fair at The Anthony Burgess Foundation, which includes a unique gift-wrapping service where you can get your purchases wrapped in special paper printed specially for the event by printmakers Gilbert and Brown. The second fair is Kosmonaut’s Skint Fair, which aims to deliver high art at low prices.

Scrabble Tournament at Sip Club
