Berlin probably dominates the market of trendy daytime clubbing, but this weekend Manchester gives it a fair old stab with a Hyper Grotto Jam at 2022NQ. Promising to be an all-day Christmas dance party, the event boasts a fantastic lineup of DJs including Wet Play’s Randy Marsh, Matt Ward and Metrodome, as well as Benny Badge and Sonofapizzaman. Sip upon festive cocktails and mulled wine whilst perusing a range of merchandise, tees, art prints and jewellery, all to the backdrop of some seriously hyper daytime grooves.

Sunday Acoustic Sessions at Band on the Wall
Band on the Wall’s Sunday Acoustic Sessions are by far one of the best events that they run, serving both the hungover and working folk apprehensive of a looming Monday with some free winding-down acoustic action that showcases the best in emerging local talent. This week features gentle, floating guitar rhythms with mesmerising vocals from Race to the Sea, and there are also open mic slots from 6.30pm. As the last event of 2013, this one’s not to be missed.

Christmas singing session at The Gaslamp
Recently a casual Twitter invitation began to circulate from English folk group The Unthanks, urging people to join band member Becky in a Christmas singing session at The Gaslamp. Be warned, for this is not a gig but in fact something a whole lot better, more immersive, and on a strictly laid-back basis. Join Becky, fellow folkster Tom Besford and others for a friendly singalong – all that’s required to join in is a bit of Christmas spirit.
