At the end of this month, the charity Freedom from Torture is holding a fundraising concert at West Didsbury’s Christ Church (pictured). Local choir the Cavendish Singers will be performing a selection works, including pieces by Faurė and Mozart. The centrepiece will be the choral suite from The Armed Man, an anti-war mass by Karl Jenkins. The concert will also feature a number of other local musicians, including the Bernstein Clarinet Quintet. The group will be performing an eclectic mix of classical and blues, including Handel’s Water Music and George Gershwin’s Oh Lady Be Good. All money raised will go to support Freedom from Torture’s work with people from Greater Manchester who are the victims of organised violence. This North West-based charity has helped hundreds of people from 40 countries to rebuild their lives.
