With the full renovation of Edge Street’s Common almost complete, Wednesday 1 April will be the preview to Plastic & Leather, an exhibition that presents the design work of ceramacist, designer, sculptor and artist Joe Hartley. His work will cleverly integrate into the new interior of the bar, which we are looking forward to seeing, including custom-made lampshades, pump handles and a coffee tamper. The ambitious plan is centred around the process of these works: the exhibition also features work from Lancaster University lecturer Adam Mead, who presents a series of photographs that show the sculptural works in process and how they have come to completion. The show will artfully embody the idea of process, reflecting the exciting makeover of one of Manchester’s most frequented bars and ushering in a new era of competitive design in the Northern Quarter.
