With winter turned up to max, indoor sports are the perfect remedy – and indoor sports where you can enjoy a cocktail, craft beer and more are even better. Welcome then, to Junkyard Golf Club. After leaving its temporary home in the Great Northern last year, the adventure golf course with a difference is now based in the heart of the city centre, at Piccadilly Place opposite Station Approach. Inside, there are two nine-hole courses to choose from; ‘Freida – In Da Club’ takes you on a journey through a smalltown night club complete with UV lights and garage music and ‘Pablo – Polluted Paradise’ invites you deep into the jungle with toxic tree frogs and a thrillingly named ‘deep cave bear wrestling cage’. Sport is great for the appetite, so pop into Eat New York after your round, and pick up a  salt beef bagel or two. There’s also brilliantly stocked bar with beers,  fine wines and puntastic cocktails such as ‘Who’s Your Caddy’ and the ‘Golf Lundgren’. We can’ t think of anywhere we’d rather hole up this winter.

Now open: Piccadilly Place, 6 Piccadilly, Manchester, M1 3BN. Mon-Wed 4pm-midnight, Thu 2pm – midnight, Fri & Sat noon-midnight, Sun noon-10pm, £7 per person, www.junkyardgolfclub.co.uk
