Never ones to not have the future in mind, electro pioneers Kraftwerk return to Manchester in June with their lauded 3D concert, a mind meld of music and performance art. Their 2009 Velodrome performance for Manchester International Festival has become the stuff of legend – this time around it’s their first UK tour in 13 years. Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider have been fiddling with post-rock future sounds since 1970, when they set up their Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, soon to be home to the production of all Kraftwerk LPs and their eventual electronic obsession (1974’s Autobahn being their first major international success). Although Schneider and Hütter parted ways before the Velodrome show, the current show sees the latter push forward a new live interpretation of the relationship and pushing of boundaries between man and machine.
