Levenshulme Market (AKA Levy Market) has been a success for the local community and beyond, and its popularity led to a spin-off Food and Drink Festival. Returning in June, this year’s event has the theme of ‘Good Food, Good Health’ and it focusses local produce with international flavours. Launch night has Mexican and African themed events, and a blues/jazz concert. Over the subsequent nine days there are workshops, supper clubs, quizzes, and a tea dance. The centrepiece is a Global Picnic taking place at Cringle Park. Another standout is a fusion tasting session called The Oriental and the Irish, taking place, appropriately enough, at Thairish Café. You might have known the venue as ‘Isis’, but the name had to be changed for obvious reasons. There is also Midsummer Salsa, which is centres on the dance, not the condiment. Tasty stuff.
