Limber up for Siobhan Davies Dance’s new live installation at the Whitworth. material / rearranged / to / be matches looped projections with choreographies based around ideas of instability and flux. The performers invite the public to get involved, whether moving to the rhythm of the piece or to think more deeply about everyday actions such as shaking hands. The London arts organisation Siobhan Davies Dance worked with neuroscientists to produce this work, and took its cue from an extensive catalogue of cross-cultural gestures curated by art historian Aby Warburg. On the first day of the 11-day installation, Saturday Supplement (Sat 6 May, 11am-4pm) will bring together artists and scientists in a day of free workshops, tours and talks – including a discussion with the production’s visual artist Jeremy Millar.
