The Whitworth opens its doors to an new exhibition curated by Turner Prize winning artist, Elizabeth Price. The group show, entitled IN A DREAM YOU SAW A WAY TO SURVIVE AND YOU WERE FULL OF JOY includes the work of over 70 artists selected by Price and including Jenny Holzer, Francesca Woodman and Andy Warhol. The pieces explore the recumbent body with thematic focuses on sleeping, working, mourning and dancing while traversing a range of different art forms, from sculpture to digital visual media. The works are drawn from various eras and styles. This group show is one of the museum’s largest to date, and delves into the relationship between art and corporeality as well as providing an insight into the mind of its curator and the creative trajectory which has claimed her as one of the art world’s most innovative figures.
