If musicians in the UK find the pressures of the recording and live music industry tough going, the 2016 documentary They Will Have To Kill Us First could give their plight some perspective. Since regime change in 2012 banned westernised music through draconian interpretation of sharia law, Mali musicians have seen not only their trade, but by consequence their lives and earthly pleasures, threatened by the state power. Band on the Wall has arranged to screen the film, which focuses on musicians who are resisting the ban.
