Beer fans of Manchester and Salford prepare to rejoice as a new bar paying homage to the US craft beer revolution launches in Monton. This drinking den, complete with a mural of The Smiths, is blessedly free of the ‘punk’ stylings of BrewDog – even if their USPs are similar. Owner Donna Robinson opened MaltDog after getting into craft beer while living in the US – but there are plenty of options for the real ale and real cider fan too. Expect Bavarian pilsners, Thornbridge Jaipur IPA, Privateer’s Roebuck, Marble’s Earl Grey IPA and more from the likes of Bank Top Brewery, Prospect, Derby Brewing Co and Brightside. For those keen to sample MaltDog’s selection, two free Meet the Brewer evenings provide the perfect opportunity. There’s one tomorrow (Tue 1 Oct, 7.30pm, FREE) hosted by Manchester’s Privateer Brewery while Bury’s Brightside take charge on Thursday (3 Oct, 7.30pm, FREE).

MaltDog, 169 Monton Road, M30 9GS, Mon 5.30pm – 11pm, Tue to Sat 12.30pm – 11pm, Sun 12.30pm – 10pm, www.maltdog.com
