Returning for its sixth outing in mid-June is Manchester Day, the citywide festival that celebrates all things Mancunian. The centrepiece of the event is the parade, which will leave Liverpool Road at 1pm, and weave its way through the city until reaches Exchange Square, around an half and a half later. Expect singing, dancing, drumming, and outrageous costumes. Last year, over 2,500 people participated and over 70,000 people came out to watch. Also, the city centre’s squares will become open air venues for circus and performance acts, theatre, art installations, and music. The full entertainment programme will be announced nearer to the event. Every Manchester Day has a theme, and this year it’s ‘Eureka!’ – a celebration of the city’s scientific achievements. The town hall will present ‘The Brainbox’, an interactive ‘laboratory’ where scientists will perform experiments that deal with the workings of the mind. You’ll also find exhibits, displays, and hands-on activities for all ages.
