Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2016 drew to a close last night with a gala dinner at the Refuge during which the winners of the annual MFDF2016 awards were announced. The MFDF Judging Panel is made up of food and drink critics from across the North West and including members of the Manchester Wire team. The judges come up with a shortlist and then visit the nominated venues. The judges votes are then combined with votes from the public cast via the MFDF website. This year’s winners are as follows:-

Restaurant of the Year: Hawksmoor
Premium & Fine Dining Venue of the Year: The French
Casual Dining Venue of the Year: Volta
Newcomer of the Year: El Gato Negro
Neighbourhood Restaurant of the Year: Levanter
Chef of the Year: Terry Huang, Umezushi
Pub of the Year: The Smithfield Tavern
Food Pub of the Year: Eagle and Child
Bar of the Year: Albert Schloss
Craft Ale Bar of the Year: Heaton Hops
Coffee Bar or Tea Shop of the Year: Pot Kettle Black
Cheap Eats of the Year: Northern Soul Grilled Cheese
Best Food and Drink Retailer of the Year: Salvi’s
Front of House Team of the Year: The French
Best Food and Drink Pop Up Event, Club or Project: Stockport Foodie Friday
Best Street Food of the Year: Chaat Cart, B.Eat Street
The Howard and Ruth Award for Outstanding Achievement: John Slattery from Slattery’s
