Manchester Food and Drink Festival 2016 dates announced
Manchester Food and Drink Festival returns this September and October. Details will be released over the coming weeks, but organisers are promising that the festival’s 19th year in the city will see a more jam-packed programme than ever before. There’s also a commitment this year to theme the celebration of ‘Manchester’s great food scene and the people who make it what it is’. Should be a belter, in that case.
Thu 29 Sep – Sun 10 Oct, Albert Square and various venues, times and prices, www.foodanddrinkfestival.com

New Chorlton bar opening this weekend: Man Bites Frog
Not a tabloid headline, just a excellently named new bar in Chorlton. The owners are currently renovating their new home, which is next to 00 Pizza, opposite Chorlton bus station and the Yoga Rooms. Pop down from Saturday to give them a moving-in welcome. The team includes Saffron Hulme, formerly of Waterstones cafe, and David Cleall-Hill who used to work at the Marble beer house, plus The Spoon Inn where he was the manager. The new bar and restaurant is located in the old TV shop, the first one on the parade. Food-wise, expect loosely French stuff, one pot things and, yes, they will be serving frog’s legs. There’s a compact wine list, as well as German lager and wheat beer on draught, and choices from Manchester brewers such as Alphabet Brewing Co. Expect a French beer and cider selection too, as well as expanding menu over the coming weeks. Other highlights include two large courtyards out the back of the venue where guests can enjoy silent cinema nights and general fun and games.
From Sat 21 May, Man Bites Frog, 378 Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton, Manchester, M21 8AZ, noon onwards, FREE entry, www.facebook.com
