It may be summer but restaurants are taking this opportunity to open up ahead of September’s student influx. Look out for burgers, lobsters, gourmet fried chicken, dirty soul food and a whole lot more, with Barton Arcade in particular set for big changes.

Burger and Lobster launches early August 2015
Burger and Lobster is set to open on King Street on Friday 7 August. As the name suggests, the restaurant only serves up burgers or lobster, with fries and salad on the side – and all for £20. It’s the first northern opening for the popular London chain and will be housed in the Grade II-listed Ship Canal House on King Street. For three days in the run up to the official opening, Burger and Lobster will be giving away free meals. Keep your eyes peeled on their Facebook page and follow @lobsterMCR for details.

Solita (pictured) opens up in Barton Arcade in Jan 2016
In other burger news, Solita is expanding its meaty reach with a fourth opening in the Barton Arcade set for January 2016, following their long-awaited Prestwich branch finally launching this August. Solita is in good company in the beautiful Victorian shopping centre just off Deansgate, which is now home to top coffeeshop Pot Kettle Black and soon-to-be-open, award-winning tapas restaurant Lunya. The menu is likely to be similar to their flagship Northern Quarter spot: an array of US-style starters, burgers piled high with extra meat, cheese, jalapenos and more, hot dogs, and calorific desserts if you still have room.

July opening for Yard and Coop gourmet fried chicken
If you’ve had enough of burgers, the next US trend to hit these shores is going to be gourmet fried chicken – and Yard and Coop is getting in on the act early. It’s a whole restaurant dedicated to crispy, crunchy, finger-lickin’ chicken, playing about with spices, marinades, sauces and buttermilk to make it even more tasty. The restaurant opens up on Edge Street in the Northern Quarter and will be serving up craft beers and an extensive cocktail list to wash all that fried goodness down. The launch weekend starts Friday 24 July – stay tuned to Yard and Coop’s Facebook page for more information.
