Manchester International Festival has announced its first three commissions for its next outing, in July 2015. The biennial event returns with Tree of Codes (2 – 10 Jul, Opera House, £12 – £45), a contemporary ballet directed and choreographed by Wayne McGregor with music composed by Jamie xx (pictured) and visual concept by Olafur Eliasson, plus The Age of Starlight (dates, venue and price TBC) – a show about the history of the universe, written and presented by Brian Cox and directed by Kevin MacDonald. A third new commission, The Tale of Mr Tumble (13 – 18 Jul, Opera House, £12 – £25), is a theatre show for young children and families, with Justin Fletcher inviting audiences to step inside the world of one of the children’s TV character. Tickets for all three shows go on sale at 10am on Thursday 20 November, with MIF members offered tickets 24 hours earlier. Since establishment in 2007, MIF has commissioned and worked with the likes of Björk, Willem Dafoe, Anthony, Marina Abramović, Kenneth Branagh and Steve McQueen every other year.
