This year marks the 10th birthday of Manchester Science Festival, which runs from 20 to 30 October (read our MSF Top 5 preview here). To celebrate a decade of the festival this time things are a bit different. The Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) has upped the ante with a spectacular free evening of science-themed events. The festival has always had a knack for making science fun, so it’s no surprise it’s keeping it light and upbeat for this birthday celebration: expect everything from expert magic tricks, the psychology of the common fear of clowns (not for the faint-hearted) to the maths of a chocolate fountain. Yes, chocolate fountains are more complex than you thought. All in all, the perfect night out for your inner nerd.

Thu 27 Oct, Museum of Science & Industry, Liverpool Road Manchester, M3 4FP. Tel: 0161 832 2244, 7pm – 10.30pm, FREE – booking advised at sciencefestival.seetickets.comwww.manchestersciencefestival.com
