New-York based, Italian-born artist Nico Vascellari returns to the Whitworth a year after his showcase performance at the reopening of the gallery. Vascellari will create two installations in the Landscape Gallery: Bus de la Lum (Hole of Light), derived from a forest in northern Italy, said to have hidden powers, and Dravasa (Door to Hell), a burning crater in the desert of Turkmenistan, to be accompanied by a soundtrack created in collaboration with Turkish-born musician Ghédalia Tazartès. Visitors to the show will become a part of Vascellari’s own transformative imagery, recreating the enthralling capacity of nature and the artist’s’ own childhood memories.
