Away from the swinging bags of Saturday afternoon shoppers, something special will be happening at Salford’s White Hotel. The primitive settings of this venue have mostly been used for debauched club nights and after parties, but omnipotent Mancunian promoters Now Wave will be using it to showcase their artists to watch for 2016. The line up so far features Childhood: A band whose psychedelic and shoegaze melodies have evoked the sounds of the Stone Roses and Echo and the Bunnymen. They’ll share the bill with Real Lies; the two groups overlapping in their ability to reflect their unique take on ’90s music in Manchester. Joining them are grunge-pop all-female quartet The Big Moon, lo-fi and all-round lovely Whitney (made up of past members of Smith Westerns, Touching Voids and Unknown Mortal Orchestra) plus more, and DJs will be taking you late into the night.

Sat 20 Feb, The White Hotel, Dickinson Street, Salford, M3 7LW, 4 – 11pm (bands)/11pm – late (DJs), £9, www.seetickets.com
