Chorlton’s Oddest bar is housing Manchester’s hip hop family for an all-day summertime party and their Bearded BBQ. One of the city’s most inclusive and prolific genre communities, Manchester’s hip hop output sees cross-pollination between groups, tunes and records, with this Saturday’s line-up boasting some of the area’s finest lyricists, beatmakers, beatboxers, scratchers and firestarters. The day’s curators, the Taste The Diff’rence collective of award-winning turntablists and record spinners (pictured), work across the whole community, from outreach workshops to promoting touring artists and DJing both around Manchester and at festivals from Parklife to Soundwave. They also lay claim to being the longest running hip hop club night in Manchester, so the event is in more then capable hands. Performing live are relative veterans The Natural Curriculum (TNC) headline on the back of a new EP by their vocalist and producer Aver. His rapping cohort Bill Sykes is an example of the scene’s collaborative crossovers, playing with soulful boombappers The Bluntskins earlier in the day as well, while Danny Diatribe will also perform tunes from his growing repertoire. Riotous horn-led sextet XMenBTeam complete the live programme, and the lengthy roster of DJs includes cult heroes Fingathing’s Peter Parker and local scene photographer Air Adam, so expect an extensive knowledge of all the tracks you need to hear on the ones and twos. On top of all this, there’s a BBQ firing all day long on the Oddest sun-facing terrace, meaning there are tasty delights to be found across music, food, drinks and more.
