Being a pop-up night rather than a regular fixture has kept Off The Hook – Manchester’s effortlessly cool, award-winning gay RnB party – as fresh as a De La Soul daisy. The party has its roots in chaotic Village underground parties from back in the day – a rare mixture of drag divas and hip-hop culture – and the party returns this month with a nod to those old-school days, showcasing performances through the night from performer and hostess Wan’gu Chafuwa (pictured). There are innovations this time around too, with the ‘Off The Hook Bar Sessions’, a chance to hear down-tempo smooth soul ‘n’ divas at the start of the night – think Sadé, Luther, Toni, Whitney, Macy – before the party tunes properly kick in. Then it’s back to business as usual on the dancefloor.
